Ingredients:
- 1 block (14 oz) extra-firm tofu
- 1 tbsp avocado oil
- 1 tbsp low-sodium soy sauce
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 0.5 tsp smoked paprika
- 1.5 tbsp cornstarch
- 0.25 tsp sea salt
- 0.25 tsp black pepper
Instructions:
- Remove the tofu from its packaging and discard the liquid.
- Wrap the tofu in a clean kitchen towel and place a heavy skillet on top for 10 minutes. Note: Removing this excess water is the single most important step for crunch.
- Cut the block into 1 inch cubes. Try to keep them uniform so they cook at the same rate.
- In a large bowl, combine the avocado oil, soy sauce, garlic powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper.
- Add the cubes to the bowl and toss gently until every side is dark and glossy.
- Sprinkle the cornstarch over the marinated tofu and toss again until no large white clumps remain.
- Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for 3 minutes before adding the food.
- Place the tofu in the basket in a single layer. Leave space for the air to whistle between them.
- Cook for 15 minutes. At the 8 minute mark, remove the basket and give it a vigorous shake.
- Continue cooking until the edges are deeply golden and the surface looks dry and crackled.
