Ingredients:

  • 1 pound fresh, firm white fish (such as tilapia or snapper), diced into small cubes
  • 1/2 cup freshly squeezed lime juice (about 4-5 limes)
  • 1 small red onion, finely chopped
  • 1 medium tomato, diced
  • 1 medium cucumber, peeled, seeded, and diced
  • 1 jalapeño, finely chopped (seeds removed for less heat)
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
  • Salt, to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • Avocado slices (optional)
  • Tortilla chips (optional)
  • Extra lime wedges (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Rinse the fish and pat dry. Dice into small, uniform cubes for even marination.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the fish and lime juice. Cover and refrigerate for 20-30 minutes, or until the fish turns opaque.
  3. Once the fish is marinated, add the chopped onion, tomato, cucumber, and jalapeño to the bowl.
  4. Add the chopped cilantro and gently stir to combine all ingredients.
  5. Season with salt and black pepper to taste. Adjust lime juice as needed.
  6. Transfer to a serving dish and garnish with avocado and lime wedges, if desired. Serve immediately with tortilla chips.
