Ingredients:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 packet active dry yeast
- ¾ cup warm water (about 110°F/43°C)
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter, melted
- 2 cups potato chips, crushed
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 teaspoon coarse sea salt
- 4 cups water
- ½ cup baking soda
Instructions:
- In a bowl, dissolve sugar and yeast in warm water. Let sit until frothy (about 5 minutes).
- Mix in flour and salt, followed by melted butter.
- Knead dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth.
- Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 30 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).
- In a pot, bring 4 cups of water to a gentle boil and gradually stir in baking soda.
- Punch down the risen dough and divide it into small pieces.
- Roll each piece into a small log shape.
- Boil each bite for 30 seconds in the baking soda solution, then remove with a slotted spoon and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Brush each pretzel bite with beaten egg and roll in crushed potato chips until well-coated.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes until golden brown, or fry in hot oil until crispy and golden.
- Sprinkle with coarse sea salt before serving. Enjoy warm!
