Ingredients:

  • 1 cup warm water (about 110°F/45°C)
  • 1 packet (2 ¼ teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • ¼ cup baking soda (for boiling)
  • 2 cups potato chips (plain or your favorite flavor)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • Coarse sea salt (for sprinkling)

Instructions:

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the warm water, active dry yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for about 5 minutes, or until it becomes foamy.
  2. Add the flour and kosher salt to the yeast mixture. Mix with a wooden spoon or a stand mixer fitted with a dough hook on low speed until a rough dough forms.
  3. Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic. Alternatively, let the stand mixer knead the dough for 5 minutes.
  4. Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a clean towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 30 minutes or until it doubles in size.
  5. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  6. In a large pot, bring about 5 cups of water to a boil. Once boiling, stir in the baking soda carefully (it will bubble up).
  7. Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a long rope about 12 inches long. Then, wrap each rope around a piece of potato chip (one chip per bite), pinching the ends to seal.
  8. Carefully place each wrapped pretzel bite into the boiling water for about 30 seconds. Remove with a slotted spoon and let drain briefly.
  9. In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and water. Brush this mixture onto each pretzel bite.
  10. Place the pretzel wraps on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Sprinkle with coarse sea salt. Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
  11. Allow the pretzel bites to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm!
