Ingredients:
- 1 cup warm water (about 110°F/45°C)
- 1 packet (2 ¼ teaspoons) active dry yeast
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- ¼ cup baking soda (for boiling)
- 2 cups potato chips (plain or your favorite flavor)
- 1 large egg
- 1 tablespoon water
- Coarse sea salt (for sprinkling)
Instructions:
- In a mixing bowl, combine the warm water, active dry yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for about 5 minutes, or until it becomes foamy.
- Add the flour and kosher salt to the yeast mixture. Mix with a wooden spoon or a stand mixer fitted with a dough hook on low speed until a rough dough forms.
- Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic. Alternatively, let the stand mixer knead the dough for 5 minutes.
- Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a clean towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 30 minutes or until it doubles in size.
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- In a large pot, bring about 5 cups of water to a boil. Once boiling, stir in the baking soda carefully (it will bubble up).
- Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a long rope about 12 inches long. Then, wrap each rope around a piece of potato chip (one chip per bite), pinching the ends to seal.
- Carefully place each wrapped pretzel bite into the boiling water for about 30 seconds. Remove with a slotted spoon and let drain briefly.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and water. Brush this mixture onto each pretzel bite.
- Place the pretzel wraps on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Sprinkle with coarse sea salt. Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
- Allow the pretzel bites to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm!
