Ingredients:
- 6 medium tart apples (such as Granny Smith), peeled, cored, and sliced (~900g)
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar (25g)
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice (15ml)
- 1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats (90g)
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour (60g)
- 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar (100g)
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cut into small cubes (113g)
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Peel, core, and slice apples evenly (~1/4 inch thick).
- In a large bowl, combine sliced apples, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg (if using), and lemon juice. Toss gently to coat evenly.
- In a separate bowl, mix oats, flour, brown sugar, salt, and cinnamon. Cut cold butter into the mixture using a pastry cutter or fork until crumbly and pea-sized bits form.
- Spread apple mixture evenly in the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle the oat topping evenly over the apples. Bake in preheated oven for 40-45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and apples are bubbling around the edges.
- Let cool for 10-15 minutes to thicken up before serving.
