Ingredients:
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup cornstarch
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 large egg yolks
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Instructions:
- Whisk together sugar, cornstarch, and salt in a medium saucepan.
- Gradually pour in the milk while whisking to avoid lumps.
- Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until thickened and bubbling (about 8-10 minutes).
- Whisk egg yolks in a heatproof bowl until smooth.
- Temper egg yolks by slowly adding hot pudding mixture while whisking.
- Return yolk mixture to saucepan and cook for another 2-3 minutes until thickened.
- Remove from heat, stir in butter and vanilla until smooth.
- Pour into serving dishes, cover with plastic wrap directly on surface, and chill for at least 30 minutes.
