Ingredients:

  • 1 pound ground breakfast sausage
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup low-sodium chicken broth
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon hot sauce (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Heat skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add the ground sausage and cook until browned (about 5-7 minutes). Drain excess fat if necessary.
  3. Sprinkle flour over the cooked sausage in the skillet. Stir well to combine and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until flour is lightly browned.
  4. Add the sausage mixture to the crockpot. Pour in the milk and chicken broth, whisking to combine.
  5. Stir in garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and salt. If desired, add hot sauce for heat.
  6. Cover the crockpot and set to low. Cook for 4-6 hours, stirring occasionally.
  7. During the last 30 minutes, check consistency; add more milk if needed.
  8. Taste and adjust seasonings as necessary. Serve hot over biscuits, toast, or potatoes.
