Ingredients:
- 1 pound ground breakfast sausage
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1 cup low-sodium chicken broth
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon hot sauce (optional)
Instructions:
- Heat skillet over medium heat.
- Add the ground sausage and cook until browned (about 5-7 minutes). Drain excess fat if necessary.
- Sprinkle flour over the cooked sausage in the skillet. Stir well to combine and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until flour is lightly browned.
- Add the sausage mixture to the crockpot. Pour in the milk and chicken broth, whisking to combine.
- Stir in garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and salt. If desired, add hot sauce for heat.
- Cover the crockpot and set to low. Cook for 4-6 hours, stirring occasionally.
- During the last 30 minutes, check consistency; add more milk if needed.
- Taste and adjust seasonings as necessary. Serve hot over biscuits, toast, or potatoes.
