Ingredients:
- 2 cups sushi rice
- 2 1/2 cups water
- 1/3 cup rice vinegar
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 can Spam
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon mirin
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil (optional)
- 4 sheets nori, cut in half
- Sesame seeds for garnish (optional)
Instructions:
- Rinse sushi rice under cold water until the water runs clear.
- Combine rice and water in a rice cooker or pot and cook according to the manufacturers instructions.
- In a small bowl, mix rice vinegar, sugar, and salt until dissolved.
- Once the rice is cooked, gently combine it with the vinegar mixture and allow it to cool.
- Slice the Spam into 8 rectangular pieces.
- In a frying pan over medium heat, add the Spam slices and cook until browned on both sides.
- Drizzle soy sauce and mirin over Spam, cooking until well coated. Remove from heat.
- Place a piece of nori on a flat surface, shiny side down.
- Use the musubi maker to add a layer of rice, followed by a slice of Spam, and top with another layer of rice.
- Press down to shape, then wrap the nori around the rice and Spam. Let it sit for a minute to set.
- Slice the musubi into convenient pieces. Optionally, sprinkle with sesame seeds before serving.
