Ingredients:

  • 4 slices of bread (preferably brioche, challah, or Texas toast), about 1 inch thick
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup (60ml) milk (whole or 2%)
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon (15g) granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons (30g) unsalted butter, for cooking
  • Optional toppings: maple syrup, fresh berries, powdered sugar

Instructions:

  1. In the shallow dish, whisk together the eggs, milk, cinnamon, sugar, and vanilla extract until well combined. Make sure that there are no big lumps from the egg.
  2. Dip each slice of bread into the egg mixture, soaking for about 15-20 seconds per side, ensuring it's thoroughly saturated but not falling apart.
  3. Melt 1 tablespoon of butter in the frying pan or griddle over medium heat.
  4. Place two soaked bread slices in the hot pan. Cook for 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through. Repeat with the remaining butter and bread.
  5. Serve immediately with your favourite toppings.
