Ingredients:
- 2 cups (400g) long-grain white rice (e.g., Basmati or long-grain American rice), rinsed until the water runs clear
- 4 cups (950ml) cold water
- 1/2 teaspoon (3g) salt (optional)
- 1 tablespoon (15ml) unsalted butter or neutral oil (optional)
Instructions:
- Place rice in a fine-mesh sieve and rinse under cold running water until the water runs clear. Drain well.
- In the saucepan, combine the rinsed rice, water, salt (if using), and butter or oil (if using).
- Bring the mixture to a rolling boil over medium-high heat. Once boiling, immediately reduce the heat to the lowest setting possible.
- Cover the saucepan tightly with the lid. Simmer for exactly 18 minutes. Do not lift the lid during this time.
- Remove the saucepan from the heat and let it sit, covered, for 10 minutes.
- After 10 minutes, remove the lid and fluff the rice gently with a fork. Serve immediately.
