Ingredients:
- 1 cup short-grain sushi rice (200 g)
- 1 ¼ cups water (300 ml)
- 2 tablespoons rice vinegar (30 ml)
- 1 tablespoon sugar (12 g)
- ½ teaspoon salt (3 g)
- 1 can Spam (12 oz or 340 g), sliced into 8 pieces
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce (30 ml)
- 1 tablespoon cooking oil (15 ml)
- 4 sheets nori (seaweed)
- Additional soy sauce for serving (optional)
Instructions:
- Rinse sushi rice under cold water until the water runs clear.
- Combine rice and water in a rice cooker or pot, cook according to instructions.
- In a small bowl, mix rice vinegar, sugar, and salt until dissolved.
- Once rice is cooked, transfer to a large bowl, gently fold in the vinegar mixture, and allow to cool slightly.
- Heat cooking oil in a skillet over medium-high heat.
- Add Spam slices, drizzle with soy sauce, and fry until golden and crispy on both sides (about 3-4 minutes per side).
- Place a sheet of nori on a clean surface or sushi mat, shiny side down.
- Wet your hands, grab a scoop of rice, and mold it into an oblong shape on the nori.
- Place a slice of fried Spam on top of the rice.
- Fold the nori over the Spam and rice, sealing the edges with a bit of water if needed.
- Slice the Musubi in half, serve with additional soy sauce if desired.
