Ingredients:
- 2 lbs (900g) Apples, peeled, cored, and roughly chopped (such as Gala, Honeycrisp, or Fuji)
- 1/4 cup (60ml) Water
- 2 tablespoons (30g) Granulated Sugar (or Maple Syrup, to taste)
- 1 tablespoon (15ml) Lemon Juice (freshly squeezed)
- 1/4 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon (optional)
- Pinch of Salt
Instructions:
- Peel, core, and roughly chop the apples into even-sized pieces.
- Add the chopped apples, water, sugar (or maple syrup), lemon juice, cinnamon (if using), and salt to the saucepan.
- Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer over medium heat.
- Reduce heat to low, cover, and cook until the apples are very soft and easily mashed, about 25-30 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
- Remove from heat. Use a potato masher for a chunky applesauce, or an immersion blender for a smoother consistency. (Be careful when blending hot liquids!)
- Taste and adjust the sweetness and spices as needed. Add more sugar or cinnamon to your liking.
- Let cool slightly before serving.
