Ingredients:

  • 2 lbs (900g) Apples, peeled, cored, and roughly chopped (such as Gala, Honeycrisp, or Fuji)
  • 1/4 cup (60ml) Water
  • 2 tablespoons (30g) Granulated Sugar (or Maple Syrup, to taste)
  • 1 tablespoon (15ml) Lemon Juice (freshly squeezed)
  • 1/4 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon (optional)
  • Pinch of Salt

Instructions:

  1. Peel, core, and roughly chop the apples into even-sized pieces.
  2. Add the chopped apples, water, sugar (or maple syrup), lemon juice, cinnamon (if using), and salt to the saucepan.
  3. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer over medium heat.
  4. Reduce heat to low, cover, and cook until the apples are very soft and easily mashed, about 25-30 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
  5. Remove from heat. Use a potato masher for a chunky applesauce, or an immersion blender for a smoother consistency. (Be careful when blending hot liquids!)
  6. Taste and adjust the sweetness and spices as needed. Add more sugar or cinnamon to your liking.
  7. Let cool slightly before serving.
