Ingredients:

  • 2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting
  • 1 tablespoon (15ml) baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon (5ml) salt
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick, 113g) cold unsalted butter, cut into small cubes
  • 1 cup (240ml) cold milk
  • 2 tablespoons (30ml) melted butter, for brushing (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 450°F (232°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper (if using).
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Using a pastry blender or your fingertips, cut the cold butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. You should still see some small pieces of butter.
  4. Pour in the cold milk and stir just until the dough comes together. Do not overmix. It's okay if there are still some streaks of flour.
  5. Using an ice cream scoop or large spoon, drop rounded spoonfuls of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving about 1 inch (2.5 cm) between each biscuit.
  6. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown on top.
  7. Brush the warm biscuits with melted butter for extra flavor and shine (optional).
  8. Let the biscuits cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before serving.
