Ingredients:
- 2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting
- 1 tablespoon (15ml) baking powder
- 1 teaspoon (5ml) salt
- 1/2 cup (1 stick, 113g) cold unsalted butter, cut into small cubes
- 1 cup (240ml) cold milk
- 2 tablespoons (30ml) melted butter, for brushing (optional)
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 450°F (232°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper (if using).
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Using a pastry blender or your fingertips, cut the cold butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. You should still see some small pieces of butter.
- Pour in the cold milk and stir just until the dough comes together. Do not overmix. It's okay if there are still some streaks of flour.
- Using an ice cream scoop or large spoon, drop rounded spoonfuls of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving about 1 inch (2.5 cm) between each biscuit.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown on top.
- Brush the warm biscuits with melted butter for extra flavor and shine (optional).
- Let the biscuits cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before serving.
