Ingredients:

  • 1 pound (450 g) ground beef (80/20 blend for juiciness)
  • 1 teaspoon (6 g) salt
  • ½ teaspoon (2 g) black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon (2 g) garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon (2 g) onion powder
  • 4 burger buns (use brioche or whole wheat for extra flavor)
  • Leafy lettuce and sliced tomato (for topping)
  • ½ cup (120 ml) mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon (15 ml) yellow mustard
  • 1 tablespoon (15 g) sweet pickle relish
  • ½ teaspoon (2 g) smoked paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, relish, and smoked paprika. Whisk until smooth and season with salt and pepper to taste. Chill in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.
  2. In a large bowl, mix ground beef with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder until just combined. Divide mixture into 4 equal portions and shape into patties, making them slightly larger than the bun.
  3. Preheat the grill to medium-high heat (about 375°F to 400°F). Lightly oil the grill grates to prevent sticking.
  4. Place patties on the grill. Cook for 5-6 minutes on one side. Flip and grill for an additional 4-6 minutes or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (70°C).
  5. In the last 2 minutes of cooking, place burger buns on the grill, cut side down, until lightly toasted.
  6. Spread a generous dollop of special sauce on the bottom bun. Top with a grilled patty, leafy lettuce, sliced tomato, and the top bun. Serve immediately with additional sauce on the side.
