Ingredients:

  • 8 slices of rye bread (about 400g)
  • 200g sliced pastrami or your protein of choice (e.g., turkey, grilled veggies)
  • 100g Swiss cheese, sliced or grated
  • 1 medium tomato, thinly sliced
  • ½ cup mixed greens (e.g., arugula, spinach)
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard or your preferred spread
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • Pickles (to taste)
  • Potato chips or crisps (for a side)

Instructions:

  1. Gather and slice all necessary ingredients (e.g., tomatoes, cheese).
  2. Lay out the slices of rye bread on a clean surface. Spread Dijon mustard on one side of each slice.
  3. On half the slices, layer the pastrami (or protein), cheese, tomatoes, and mixed greens. Season with salt and pepper.
  4. Place the remaining slices of bread on top, mustard side down.
  5. Heat a skillet over medium heat. Add a dash of oil or butter. Toast the sandwiches for about 3-5 minutes on each side until golden brown and the cheese melts.
  6. Remove sandwiches from the skillet. Cut in half and serve warm with pickles and crisps on the side.
