Ingredients:
- 4 cups (500g) all-purpose flour, plus extra for dusting
- 2 ¼ teaspoons (1 packet) active dry yeast
- 1 ½ teaspoons salt
- 1 tablespoon (12g) sugar
- 1 ½ cups (360ml) warm water (around 110°F or 43°C)
- 2 tablespoons (30ml) unsalted butter, melted (plus extra for greasing)
Instructions:
- In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour and salt.
- Pour the yeast mixture and melted butter into the flour mixture. Stir until a dough forms.
- Transfer dough onto a floured surface. Knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough, turn it onto a lightly floured surface, shape into a loaf, and place in the greased loaf pan.
- Cover and let rise for another 30-45 minutes until it has risen above the pan's edges.
- Meanwhile, preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
- Remove from the pan; let cool on a wire rack before slicing.
