Ingredients:
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 1 packet instant yeast
- 1 cup warm water
- ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
- 2 tablespoons poppy seeds
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted (for brushing)
Instructions:
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, salt, and yeast.
- Gradually add warm water and melted butter, mixing until combined.
- Add egg and mix until a dough forms.
- Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place dough in a greased bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and let it rise until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
- Punch down the risen dough and divide it into 8 equal pieces.
- Shape each piece into a tapered log and place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Cover the shaped buns loosely with a damp towel and let them rise for another 30-40 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Brush the tops of the buns with melted butter and sprinkle poppy seeds evenly over them.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes or until golden brown.
- Remove from oven and let cool slightly on a wire rack before serving.
