Ingredients:

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 packet instant yeast
  • 1 cup warm water
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons poppy seeds
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted (for brushing)

Instructions:

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, salt, and yeast.
  2. Gradually add warm water and melted butter, mixing until combined.
  3. Add egg and mix until a dough forms.
  4. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and let it rise until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
  6. Punch down the risen dough and divide it into 8 equal pieces.
  7. Shape each piece into a tapered log and place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  8. Cover the shaped buns loosely with a damp towel and let them rise for another 30-40 minutes.
  9. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  10. Brush the tops of the buns with melted butter and sprinkle poppy seeds evenly over them.
  11. Bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes or until golden brown.
  12. Remove from oven and let cool slightly on a wire rack before serving.
