Ingredients:
- 1 cup (240ml) ketchup
- 1/2 cup (120ml) apple cider vinegar
- 1/4 cup (60ml) Worcestershire sauce
- 1/4 cup (50g) brown sugar, packed
- 2 tablespoons (30ml) molasses
- 1 tablespoon (15ml) yellow mustard
- 1 tablespoon (15ml) smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon (5ml) garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon (2.5ml) onion powder
- 1/4 teaspoon (1.25ml) cayenne pepper (or to taste)
- 1/4 teaspoon (1.25ml) black pepper, freshly ground
- 1/4 teaspoon (1.25ml) salt (or to taste)
Instructions:
- In the saucepan, whisk together all ingredients (ketchup, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, molasses, mustard, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, black pepper, and salt).
- Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer over medium-low heat.
- Reduce heat to low and simmer, uncovered, for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking and burning. The sauce should thicken slightly.
- Taste the sauce and adjust seasonings as needed. Add more cayenne for heat, brown sugar for sweetness, or vinegar for tang.
- Remove from heat and let the sauce cool completely. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
