Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (240ml) ketchup
  • 1/2 cup (120ml) apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 cup (60ml) Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 cup (50g) brown sugar, packed
  • 2 tablespoons (30ml) molasses
  • 1 tablespoon (15ml) yellow mustard
  • 1 tablespoon (15ml) smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon (5ml) garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon (2.5ml) onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon (1.25ml) cayenne pepper (or to taste)
  • 1/4 teaspoon (1.25ml) black pepper, freshly ground
  • 1/4 teaspoon (1.25ml) salt (or to taste)

Instructions:

  1. In the saucepan, whisk together all ingredients (ketchup, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, molasses, mustard, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, black pepper, and salt).
  2. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer over medium-low heat.
  3. Reduce heat to low and simmer, uncovered, for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking and burning. The sauce should thicken slightly.
  4. Taste the sauce and adjust seasonings as needed. Add more cayenne for heat, brown sugar for sweetness, or vinegar for tang.
  5. Remove from heat and let the sauce cool completely. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
