Ingredients:

  • 2 cups (240g) all-purpose flour, plus extra for dusting
  • 2 teaspoons (8g) instant yeast
  • 2 tablespoons (25g) granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon (3g) salt
  • 3/4 cup (180ml) warm water (about 110°F/43°C)
  • 1 tablespoon (15ml) vegetable oil
  • 1 cup (150g) ground pork (or chicken)
  • 2 green onions, finely chopped
  • 2 teaspoons (10ml) soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon (5g) ginger, minced
  • 1 teaspoon (5g) garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon (15ml) sesame oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Soy sauce or hoisin sauce for dipping (optional)
  • Sliced cucumbers or pickled vegetables

Instructions:

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, yeast, sugar, and salt.
  2. Gradually add warm water while stirring, then knead until smooth.
  3. Add vegetable oil and knead for an additional 5 minutes until elastic.
  4. Cover the dough with a damp kitchen towel and let rise for 45 minutes.
  5. In a bowl, mix ground pork, green onions, soy sauce, ginger, garlic, sesame oil, and seasoning until well combined.
  6. Punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces.
  7. Roll each piece into a ball, then flatten it into a disc.
  8. Place a spoonful of filling in the center, fold the dough over, pinch to seal.
  9. Line the steamer basket with parchment paper.
  10. Arrange the buns in the steamer, leaving space for expansion.
  11. Steam over boiling water for 15 minutes, or until the buns are fluffy and cooked through.
  12. Remove from heat and let cool slightly before serving.
  13. Serve with dipping sauce and additional sides.
