Ingredients:
- 2 cups (240g) all-purpose flour, plus extra for dusting
- 2 teaspoons (8g) instant yeast
- 2 tablespoons (25g) granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon (3g) salt
- 3/4 cup (180ml) warm water (about 110°F/43°C)
- 1 tablespoon (15ml) vegetable oil
- 1 cup (150g) ground pork (or chicken)
- 2 green onions, finely chopped
- 2 teaspoons (10ml) soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon (5g) ginger, minced
- 1 teaspoon (5g) garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon (15ml) sesame oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Soy sauce or hoisin sauce for dipping (optional)
- Sliced cucumbers or pickled vegetables
Instructions:
- In a mixing bowl, combine flour, yeast, sugar, and salt.
- Gradually add warm water while stirring, then knead until smooth.
- Add vegetable oil and knead for an additional 5 minutes until elastic.
- Cover the dough with a damp kitchen towel and let rise for 45 minutes.
- In a bowl, mix ground pork, green onions, soy sauce, ginger, garlic, sesame oil, and seasoning until well combined.
- Punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces.
- Roll each piece into a ball, then flatten it into a disc.
- Place a spoonful of filling in the center, fold the dough over, pinch to seal.
- Line the steamer basket with parchment paper.
- Arrange the buns in the steamer, leaving space for expansion.
- Steam over boiling water for 15 minutes, or until the buns are fluffy and cooked through.
- Remove from heat and let cool slightly before serving.
- Serve with dipping sauce and additional sides.
