Ingredients:
- 1 tablespoon (15 mL) vegetable oil
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon (15 g) coarsely ground black pepper
- 1 tablespoon (15 g) brown sugar
- 3 tablespoons (45 mL) soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon (15 mL) oyster sauce (optional)
- 1 tablespoon (15 mL) rice vinegar
- ½ cup (120 mL) chicken or vegetable broth
- 1 teaspoon (5 g) cornstarch mixed with 1 tablespoon (15 mL) water (optional)
Instructions:
- In a medium saucepan, heat vegetable oil over medium heat.
- Add minced garlic and sauté until fragrant (about 30 seconds), being careful not to burn.
- Stir in coarsely ground black pepper and brown sugar, cooking for 1 minute.
- Add soy sauce, oyster sauce (if using), and rice vinegar, stirring to combine.
- Gradually add chicken or vegetable broth, continuing to stir.
- If a thicker sauce is desired, whisk in the cornstarch mixture and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until slightly thickened.
- Taste and adjust seasoning with additional black pepper or soy sauce as needed.
- Remove from heat and transfer to a serving dish or use immediately.
