Ingredients:
- 8 oz (225 g) Italian sausage, casing removed
- 4 cups (400 g) cubed bread (preferably a day or two old)
- 1 medium onion, diced (about 1 cup)
- 2 stalks celery, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp (5 g) dried sage
- 1 tsp (5 g) dried thyme
- 1/2 tsp (2.5 g) salt (adjust to taste)
- 1/2 tsp (2.5 g) black pepper
- 1/4 cup (60 ml) chicken or vegetable broth (add more if needed)
- Fresh parsley, chopped for garnish (optional)
Instructions:
- Prepare Ingredients: Dice onion and celery, and mince garlic.
- Cook Sausage: In a large skillet, heat over medium heat and sauté the sausage until browned and cooked through, breaking it up with a spatula as it cooks (about 5-7 minutes).
- Sauté Vegetables: Add diced onion, celery, and garlic to the skillet with the sausage. Cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Combine Ingredients: In a mixing bowl, combine cubed bread, herbs, salt, pepper, and the sausage-vegetable mixture.
- Moisten: Gradually add the broth, mixing well until the bread is slightly moist but not soggy.
- Transfer & Bake: Pour the mixture into a greased baking dish and spread evenly. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 25-30 minutes until golden brown on top.
- Serve: Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.
