- 1/2 cup (120 ml) soy sauce (low-sodium preferred)
- 1/4 cup (60 ml) peanut butter or black bean paste
- 1/4 cup (50 g) brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons (30 ml) rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon (15 ml) sesame oil
- 1 teaspoon (5 g) garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon (5 g) Chinese five-spice powder (optional)
- 1/2 teaspoon (2 g) red pepper flakes (optional for heat)
Instructions:
- In a mixing bowl, combine the soy sauce and peanut butter (or black bean paste).
- Whisk until smooth and well combined.
- Gradually add brown sugar, stirring to dissolve completely.
- Add rice vinegar and sesame oil; mix until fully integrated.
- Stir in garlic powder and five-spice powder (if using).
- For extra heat, add red pepper flakes and mix well.
- Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary; add more sugar for sweetness or soy sauce for saltiness.
- Transfer the sauce to an airtight container and refrigerate until needed.
