Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) soy sauce (low-sodium preferred)
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) peanut butter or black bean paste
  • 1/4 cup (50 g) brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon (15 ml) sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon (5 g) garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon (5 g) Chinese five-spice powder (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon (2 g) red pepper flakes (optional for heat)

Instructions:

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the soy sauce and peanut butter (or black bean paste).
  2. Whisk until smooth and well combined.
  3. Gradually add brown sugar, stirring to dissolve completely.
  4. Add rice vinegar and sesame oil; mix until fully integrated.
  5. Stir in garlic powder and five-spice powder (if using).
  6. For extra heat, add red pepper flakes and mix well.
  7. Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary; add more sugar for sweetness or soy sauce for saltiness.
  8. Transfer the sauce to an airtight container and refrigerate until needed.
