Ingredients:

  • 1 lb lean ground beef (90/10)
  • 0.5 cup yellow onion, finely diced
  • 0.25 cup green bell pepper, finely diced
  • 1 cup Sloppy Joe sauce (Manwich)
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 0.5 tsp smoked paprika
  • 0.25 tsp salt
  • 0.25 tsp black pepper
  • 1 package (12 count) King’s Hawaiian Sweet Rolls
  • 7 slices provolone cheese
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 0.5 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp sesame seeds

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). In a large skillet over medium-high heat, brown the ground beef for 2 minutes undisturbed to develop a crust. Break up the meat and cook until no pink remains. Drain excess fat.
  2. Add the diced onions and green peppers to the skillet. Sauté for approximately 4 minutes until the vegetables are translucent.
  3. Stir in the Sloppy Joe sauce, garlic powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 5-7 minutes until the sauce is thickened to a jam-like consistency.
  4. Use a serrated knife to slice the entire block of Hawaiian rolls in half horizontally. Place the bottom half in a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  5. Layer half of the cheese slices on the bottom buns to create a moisture barrier. Spread the meat mixture evenly over the cheese, then layer the remaining cheese slices on top.
  6. Place the top half of the rolls over the filling. In a small bowl, whisk together melted butter, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, and onion powder. Brush the glaze over the rolls and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
  7. Cover with foil and bake for 10 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 5-10 minutes until the cheese is molten and the tops are golden brown.
