Ingredients:
- 1 lb lean ground beef (90/10)
- 0.5 cup yellow onion, finely diced
- 0.25 cup green bell pepper, finely diced
- 1 cup Sloppy Joe sauce (Manwich)
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 0.5 tsp smoked paprika
- 0.25 tsp salt
- 0.25 tsp black pepper
- 1 package (12 count) King’s Hawaiian Sweet Rolls
- 7 slices provolone cheese
- 3 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
- 1 tsp Dijon mustard
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 0.5 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp sesame seeds
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). In a large skillet over medium-high heat, brown the ground beef for 2 minutes undisturbed to develop a crust. Break up the meat and cook until no pink remains. Drain excess fat.
- Add the diced onions and green peppers to the skillet. Sauté for approximately 4 minutes until the vegetables are translucent.
- Stir in the Sloppy Joe sauce, garlic powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 5-7 minutes until the sauce is thickened to a jam-like consistency.
- Use a serrated knife to slice the entire block of Hawaiian rolls in half horizontally. Place the bottom half in a 9x13 inch baking dish.
- Layer half of the cheese slices on the bottom buns to create a moisture barrier. Spread the meat mixture evenly over the cheese, then layer the remaining cheese slices on top.
- Place the top half of the rolls over the filling. In a small bowl, whisk together melted butter, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, and onion powder. Brush the glaze over the rolls and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
- Cover with foil and bake for 10 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 5-10 minutes until the cheese is molten and the tops are golden brown.
