Ingredients:

  • 1 pound (450g) breakfast sausage (pork or turkey)
  • 1/4 cup (30g) all-purpose flour
  • 4 cups (960ml) whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon (5g) garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon (5g) onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon (2.5g) black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon (2.5g) salt (to taste)
  • 1/4 teaspoon (1g) crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Biscuits or toast (store-bought or homemade)

Instructions:

  1. Heat a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add breakfast sausage to the skillet, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon. Cook until browned and fully cooked (about 5-6 minutes).
  3. Sprinkle flour over the cooked sausage. Stir for 1-2 minutes to cook out the raw flour taste.
  4. Pour the sausage and flour mixture into the slow cooker. Add milk, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and crushed red pepper flakes.
  5. Stir to combine. Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours, stirring occasionally, if able.
  6. After cooking, taste the gravy and adjust seasoning with salt and pepper as needed.
  7. Ladle the sausage gravy over warm biscuits or toast.
