Ingredients:

  • 1 (15 oz) can of tomato sauce (425 g)
  • 1 (6 oz) can of tomato paste (170 g)
  • 1 cup water (240 ml)
  • 1 tablespoon white vinegar (15 ml)
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder (8 g)
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar (12 g)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder (3 g)
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder (3 g)
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin (1 g)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt (3 g)
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper (2 g)
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for extra heat) (1 g)

Instructions:

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine tomato sauce, tomato paste, and water. Whisk until smooth.
  2. Stir in white vinegar, chili powder, sugar, garlic powder, onion powder, cumin, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper (if using).
  3. Bring the sauce to a gentle boil over medium heat. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. Taste the sauce and adjust seasonings if desired. Add more sugar to balance acidity or more cayenne for heat.
  5. Let the sauce cool before transferring to a jar. Store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
