Ingredients:
- 1 (15 oz) can of tomato sauce (425 g)
- 1 (6 oz) can of tomato paste (170 g)
- 1 cup water (240 ml)
- 1 tablespoon white vinegar (15 ml)
- 1 tablespoon chili powder (8 g)
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar (12 g)
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder (3 g)
- 1 teaspoon onion powder (3 g)
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin (1 g)
- 1/2 teaspoon salt (3 g)
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper (2 g)
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for extra heat) (1 g)
Instructions:
- In a medium saucepan, combine tomato sauce, tomato paste, and water. Whisk until smooth.
- Stir in white vinegar, chili powder, sugar, garlic powder, onion powder, cumin, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper (if using).
- Bring the sauce to a gentle boil over medium heat. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Taste the sauce and adjust seasonings if desired. Add more sugar to balance acidity or more cayenne for heat.
- Let the sauce cool before transferring to a jar. Store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
