Ingredients:
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 lb ground pork
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can crushed tomatoes (28 oz)
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp dried basil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 4 tbsp unsalted butter
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg
- Salt to taste
- 12 lasagna noodles, cooked al dente
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions:
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet.
- Sauté chopped onion until translucent.
- Add garlic and cook until fragrant (about 1 minute).
- Add ground beef and pork; cook until browned.
- Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper.
- Simmer for at least 30 minutes until thickened.
- In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat.
- Whisk in flour and cook for 1-2 minutes until lightly golden.
- Gradually whisk in milk, ensuring no lumps.
- Continue whisking until the mixture thickens.
- Stir in nutmeg and salt, then set aside.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom of the baking dish.
- Layer with cooked noodles, followed by meat sauce, béchamel, and mozzarella.
- Repeat layers, finishing with béchamel and a sprinkle of Parmesan on top.
- Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes.
- Remove foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until bubbly and golden.
- Let the lasagna sit for 30 minutes before cutting.
