Ingredients:

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 lb ground pork
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can crushed tomatoes (28 oz)
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • Salt to taste
  • 12 lasagna noodles, cooked al dente
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions:

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet.
  2. Sauté chopped onion until translucent.
  3. Add garlic and cook until fragrant (about 1 minute).
  4. Add ground beef and pork; cook until browned.
  5. Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper.
  6. Simmer for at least 30 minutes until thickened.
  7. In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat.
  8. Whisk in flour and cook for 1-2 minutes until lightly golden.
  9. Gradually whisk in milk, ensuring no lumps.
  10. Continue whisking until the mixture thickens.
  11. Stir in nutmeg and salt, then set aside.
  12. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  13. Spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom of the baking dish.
  14. Layer with cooked noodles, followed by meat sauce, béchamel, and mozzarella.
  15. Repeat layers, finishing with béchamel and a sprinkle of Parmesan on top.
  16. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes.
  17. Remove foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until bubbly and golden.
  18. Let the lasagna sit for 30 minutes before cutting.
  19. Serve warm and enjoy!
