Ingredients:

  • 1 pound (454g) fresh or frozen strawberries, hulled and sliced
  • ½ cup (100g) granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons (30ml) water
  • 1 tablespoon (15ml) lemon juice
  • Pinch of salt (about ⅛ teaspoon)

Instructions:

  1. In the saucepan, combine the strawberries, sugar, water, lemon juice, and salt.
  2. Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally.
  3. Reduce the heat to low and continue to simmer, stirring occasionally, until the strawberries are softened and the sauce has thickened slightly (about 10-15 minutes).
  4. If you prefer a smoother sauce, use an immersion blender to blend the sauce directly in the saucepan. Alternatively, carefully transfer the sauce to a regular blender or food processor and blend until smooth.
  5. Allow the sauce to cool completely before transferring it to an airtight container. Store in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
