Ingredients:
- 2 tablespoons (30 ml) unsalted butter
- 1/4 cup (30 g) all-purpose flour
- 2 cups (473 ml) whole milk
- 1/4 cup (50 g) granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup (25 g) unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
Instructions:
- Melt the butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat.
- Whisk in the flour until smooth. Cook for 1-2 minutes to create a roux. This removes the raw flour taste.
- Slowly whisk in the milk, a little at a time, ensuring there are no lumps.
- Add the sugar, cocoa powder, cinnamon, and salt. Whisk until well combined and smooth.
- Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer, stirring constantly, until it thickens to your desired consistency (about 5-7 minutes). Watch closely to prevent scorching.
- Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
- Serve warm immediately over biscuits (or desired side).
